The Second 5 Star Hotel at The Dead Sea
When BTC signed a contract with Marriott International to develop their first resort in Jordan, the Dead Sea market only had two hotels with approximately 450 rooms at the time. While some dubbed it to be risky, the owning companies saw this as an opportunity to develop a unique product to establish the Dead Sea as a separate destination in and of itself. So, with an internationally recognized brand (Marriott) as operators and with the experience of the owning companies The 200-room Dead Sea Marriott Resort & Spa (DSM) opened its doors to its first guests 2003, creating unparalleled hype and adding lots of character to the area. In the few years after that, the eastern shores of the Dead Sea saw the development of several other hotels and brands. Today the Dead Sea is an established destination in Jordan with several hotels including internationally recognized brands such as Kempinski, Movenpick, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and other local brands. The Dead Sea is now home to the largest convention center in the country, the “King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center” (see link below), which is now being managed by Hilton.
